Considerations while using Color

SIZE AND PROPORTION: The size of the area which is colored can have a significant impact on the design. In order to achieve harmony, rhythm, repetition, unity, conflict, gradation or dominance in design intelligent application of size and proportion is vital. Larger the colored area the superior the effect and undersized use of colors can mislay their uniqueness due to visual amalgamation.

PATTERN: Pattern plays an important role in the perception of a color. A scene can be composed of various forms of line like, horizontal line, diagonal, vertical, intersecting and circular. These various shapes of liens have the ability to emphasize and reinterpret the design. Horizontal lines signify weight, distance, weight and width and there is mainly anticipated and contented aspect of line form. Diagonal lines are used to add depth and create movement in a space. Vertical lines imply height and lightness. But they cause more tension. Intersecting lines highlight a point of importance. Circular lines present a sense of movement in the space.

PATTERN LANGUAGE: Sometimes pattern can be decorative and sometimes is can play a big role in creating allusions of size, texture, shape, movement and color value. In a pattern colors cannot be placed randomly and a fine pattern should sustain the design of the space.

MOVEMENT COMPOSITION: The arrangement of colors in a space can create direction and can define the purpose of the space. With directional pattern or lines a movement in the space can be achieved which the warm and cool colors reflect the atmosphere of the space. For example red line is more attractive then black line and creates a strong impression. Thin line appears to move quicker then thick lines where as straight lines are direct and curved lines are amble.

In all, it is very important to consider all these aspects before designing a space so that a cohesive composition is achieved.
